If you are not going to submit a FAFSA or CADAA, you can apply for just ​the CCPG ​fee waiver either through an online form, or a paper application:

You must complete all questions on the CCPG application. If you qualify, the waiver will be applied to your student account promptly. Paper applications must be submitted as a PDF attachment via email to finaid@sccollege.edu, or dropped off in person at the Financial Aid Office.

If you do not meet academic standards, you may submit a Loss of CCPG Appeal Form for reconsideration.

FAQ

If you have submitted a FAFSA or Dream Act Application, you have already applied for the California College Promise Grant. No need to do anything further.

Formerly known as the BOG Fee Waiver, the CCPG waives enrollment fees ($46 per unit) for eligible California residents.

Please note that this waiver only covers tuition fees—mandatory student fees are not included.

The CCPG waives enrollment fees for the Summer term preceding the Fall semester, the Fall semester, and the Spring semester (including Spring Intersession).

A new application is required each academic year, starting with the Summer term.

For example:
If you are awarded the CCPG for the 2025–2026 academic year, your enrollment fees will be waived for Summer 2025, Fall 2025, and Spring 2026.

YES – make it habit to complete your financial aid applications (FAFSA or CADAA) each academic year.

To qualify for the CCPG, you must meet California residency requirements (or qualify under AB 540/AB 2000) and meet one of the following criteria:

  1. Method A - Students (or parents, if you're a dependent student) receive assistance from the following:
  • CalWORKs / TANF
  • SSI (Supplemental Security Income)
  • General Assistance

You must provide documentation of benefits.

  1. Method B - Must meet the low-income standards set by the state of California based on your household size. Income must be reported on the CCPG application.
  2. Method C – Must demonstrate financial need based on the Student Aid Index (SAI) from the FAFSA or CADAA.
  • Students must have a minimum unmet need of $1,104.
  • Complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or CADAA (California Dream Act Application), and your calculated financial need may qualify you for the CCPG.
  1. Method D – For students who, at the time of enrollment, is a homeless youth as defined in the federal McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and are under 25 years of age.
  2. Special Classification - The special classification include students who are:
    1. Dependents of California National Guard members • Dependents of veterans
    2. Congressional Medal of Honor recipients and their dependents
    3. Surviving dependents of the September 11, 2001 attacks
    4. Dependents of law enforcement or fire suppression personnel
    5. Persons exonerated of crimes by writ of habeas corpus or pardon
    6. Dependent/ spouse/ Registered Domestic Partner of a deceased physician, nurse, or first responder who died of COVID-19 during the COVID-19 pandemic state of emergency in California

Academic Standards Requirement

To maintain CCPG eligibility, students must meet the following academic standards:

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher
  • Successfully complete more than 50% of the coursework attempted (Drops, withdrawals, and failing grades negatively affect your completion rate)

Failure to meet these standards for two consecutive primary terms may result in the loss of CCPG eligibility.

At Santiago Canyon College, Fall and Spring are considered primary semesters. Summer is not a primary semester

Losing CCPG Due to Academic Standards

You may lose your CCPG if, for two consecutive primary semesters, you:

  • Have a GPA below 2.0, and/or
  • Complete 50% or less of your attempted courses

How to Regain CCPG Eligibility

  1. Improve Your GPA and/or Completion Rate
  2. Submit a CCPG Appeal - Complete the CCPG Appeal Form and submit it to the Financial Aid Office (Room E-104). The Appeals Committee will review your request.
  3. Sit out for one year - Skip enrollment at all Rancho Santiago Community College District schools for two consecutive primary semesters.

To Submit a CCPG Appeal

Complete the CCPG Appeal Form, available online or at the Financial Aid Office (Room E-104). Be sure to fill out all required sections, include a written explanation of your circumstances, any supporting documents, and a copy of your education plan. You can submit the completed appeal in person or by email at finaid@sccollege.edu. The Appeals Committee will review your request, and you’ll be notified of the decision via email.
