Our Approach

At Santiago Canyon College, the Standards of Student Conduct (BP 5500, AR 5500, and AR 5520) are designed to support a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment where all students can pursue their educational goals and experience a sense of belonging.

We recognize that college students navigate complex personal, academic, and social challenges. For this reason, our approach to addressing concerns is grounded in fairness, respect, and a commitment to student learning and development. When concerns about behavior arise, we seek to understand the full context of a situation, provide students an opportunity to be heard, and encourage accountability in ways that promote growth and community well-being.

The Office of Student Development's responsibilities extend beyond student conduct and include Civil Rights compliance, Title IX, the CARE Team, and the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT). Through these interconnected functions, we work to promote student safety, address barriers to success, respond to concerns with compassion and impartiality, and uphold the rights and dignity of all members of our campus community. Our goal is not simply to respond to incidents, but to foster a campus culture rooted in respect, equity, personal responsibility, and mutual care. We believe that when students are supported, informed, and treated with dignity, they are better positioned to learn from challenges, repair harm when appropriate, and thrive both academically and personally.

Student Discipline: Faculty Rights Removal From Class by Instructor
An instructor may remove a student from his or her class for the day of removal and the next class meeting, and shall report all such action to the Academic Dean of the appropriate division and to the Dean of Student Development or designee at Santiago Canyon College.

During the period of the removal, the student shall not be returned to a class from which he or she was removed without the concurrence of the instructor and the Student Services administrator.
