Guardian Scholars is a program committed to supporting ambitious, college bound students exiting the foster care system. What makes this program such a rewarding experience is the personal attention paid to each student and people involved.  The program is integral to the success of the student, and is designed to provide a level of support and networking that is critically needed for this special population, to ensure that full advantage is taken of college life, both inside and outside the classroom.

 

NextUp & Guardian Scholars Program are comprehensive support programs designed to assist current and former foster youth in achieving their educational goals. Our program is committed to empowering students who have experienced the foster care system by providing the guidance, stability, and resources necessary for success in college.

We recognize that, like all students, foster youth benefit from academic, personal, and financial support. The NextUp & Guardian Scholars Program offers access to scholarships, individualized guidance, workshops, and referrals to community resources that enhance both academic and personal well-being. We actively collaborate with campus and community partners to ensure that students receive the highest level of support throughout their educational journey.

We understand that navigating the transition to college can be challenging, especially for foster youth. Our goal is to provide the tools, resources, and encouragement needed to help you move forward with confidence and pride.

As an SCC student, we encourage you to:

1. Attend classes regularly, stay engaged, and remain committed to building the future you envision.
2. Stay connected with the NextUp program by monitoring important dates, checking communications, and participating in events throughout the semester.
3. Meet with your counselor for academic support and guidance regarding any concerns you may have during the semester. The NextUp & Guardian Scholars Program is dedicated to supporting academic achievement, personal development, and long-term success of foster youth in higher education.
