Chemistry Placement Test

The Chemistry Placement Test is offered for students who wish to enroll in Chemistry 200A - General Chemistry and bypass the prerequisite of Chemistry 100 - Introductory Chemistry.

NOTE: if you passed AP Chemistry with a score of 3 or higher, please submit a prerequisite clearance form with your scores for placement into Chemistry 200A.

Students who want to take this test need to do the following:

• Apply to SCC and have a 7-digit SCC Student ID number

What to bring and where to check in on your testing day:

Come prepared! On the day of your appointment, you will be given one hour to complete 44 multiple choice questions. You will need to do the following:

Arrive 10 minutes prior to your scheduled time
If you are not an SCC student, please park in any of the unmarked parking spots (do not park in the following areas: reserved, loading zones or 30minute parking, any spots labeled for staff, deans or has a name on it)
Purchase a day parking pass at any of the parking kiosk stations, these are located throughout the parking lots
*Please note the campus safety does monitor the parking lots and will issue parking citations for any vehicles without a parking pass.

Bring your identification (SCC Student ID, drivers license, passport, etc.)
Please do not bring any materials to the test. A basic calculator and a periodic table will be provided to you during your exam

Preparing for your Chemistry Placement Test

We want you to succeed! Please prepare for this test by reviewing an Introductory Chemistry textbook prior to taking the Chemistry Placement Test at SCC. You can also review the Chemistry Placement Test Sample Questions below. This will help to prepare you for some of the basic concepts covered on this test.
