Mission

The mission of the Santiago Canyon College Honors Program Committee is to oversee the Honors Program and work with the Honors Program Co-Coordinators to establish the standards, procedures, and policies of the Program.

Meeting Frequency

The Honors Program Committee meets in-person on the 3rd Wednesday of the month from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM during the fall and spring semesters.

Membership

The membership includes the following:

One faculty (not to be an Honors Program Coordinator) (co-chair)
One academic dean (co-chair)
Two Honors Program Co-Coordinators, one of whom is a Counseling faculty member
At least one faculty member from each of the following divisions:
- Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences
- Business and Career Education
- Counseling and Student Support Services
- Institutional Effectiveness, Library, and Learning Support Services
- Mathematics and Sciences
At least one at-large faculty member
Dean, Enrollment and Student Support Services (or designee)
Graduation Specialist (Classified professional)
Transfer Center Specialist (Classified professional)
One Honors Program student representative and/or one ASG representative or designee

Responsibilities

Assist the Co-Coordinators in recruiting new students and in promoting and publicizing the Honors Program and its activities
Review and make recommendations for projected offerings as compiled by the Co-Coordinators
Review and make recommendations for changes to the schedule of Honors classes as compiled by the Co-Coordinators
Review and make recommendations for proposed Honors courses before going to Curriculum and Instruction Council (CIC)
Review existing Honors courses as aligned with the curriculum review process
Solicit development of new courses
Review requests for exception to program rules and regulations
Assist with Honors Program Reception
Encourage and support student participation in the Honors Transfer Council of California (HTCC) Research Conference
Establish and review standards, procedures, and policies of the program
