​​​​​​​​​Q: Are librarians available for help during campus-wide temporary remote instruction?

A: Librarians are available for help remotely, via ​​Ask a Librarian chat, ​via email at askalibrarian@sccollege.edu, and via text message at 714-486-0999. 

Q: Is the library building open during campus-wide temporary remote instruction?

A. The first floor of the library building is open in a limited capacity to current Santiago Canyon College credit and non-credit students only, for computer use, printing services, and course reserves. The hours are Monday to Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Computers and printers are available for essential work only. 

Course reserve materials will be available for two-day maximum checkout at the Circulation Desk. Materials are not immediately available upon return, as they will be placed in quarantine. 

Q: What pandemic-specific policies are in place for access to the library building?

A: Students must wear a mask or face-covering that covers both their nose and mouth the entire time they are in the building. Students will enter the building through one door and exit through another, indicated by signage. Upon entrance to the building, there are floor markings to help students maintain a six-foot distance from one another. In the foyer, students must sign a Student Safety Agreement after using the hand sanitizer provided. Students will then proceed to the Circulation Desk, where a staff member will digitally check their temperature. 

Students may not come to the library building if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms: cough; shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; fever greater than 100 degrees; chills; muscle pain; sore throat; loss of taste or smell. If students have any of these symptoms, they should contact their primary care provider for assessment of symptoms and/or COVID-19 testing. They should also self-isolate until cleared by their doctor.

For computer and printer use, staff will assign students to one of the twenty socially-distanced computer work stations, and give students a disinfected keyboard and mouse. Students will send any documents that need to be printed to staff, as there is no student access to printers at this time. When students are finished with their work, they will unplug the keyboard and mouse, and place in a designated location below the main stairwell, indicated by signage. They will then exit through the exit door only, also indicated by signage. Computer work station surfaces are disinfected by staff after each use.

Q: How can I search if my textbook is available in course reserves? I usually check it out from the library reserve collection.

A: Course reserves can be checked out as of August 24th and are searchable from the search discovery system. The checkout period is 48 hours for all course reserve materials. The late fee for course reserve materials is $5 per day, per item. Upon return, course reserve materials will be quarantined for 48 hours before they can be checked out again. This will limit the availability of many reserve materials during the semester and we encourage students to contact their instructors for guidance when possible due to the limitations on these materials.

Q: Can we check out laptop during this period?

A: If you need access to a computer/laptop, please email Silvia Lopez at Lopez_Silvia@sccollege.edu to schedule a pick-up appointment. You must have a confirmed pick-up appointment to be allowed on campus. Check the campus page for current information.​

Q: How do I return my library materials when the library is closed?​

A: Students may replace materials in the Book Return Box located on the drive through/drop off lane in front of the E-Building. Please be aware that the Chapman entrance may be coned off​​ on Fridays and weekends.

Q: How am I able to access Noodle Tools for creating citations for my research paper?

A: Access NoodleTools and other resources from the Lorenzo A. Ramirez Library homepage. You will need to create an account in NoodleTools if you do not already have one.

Q: How do I ask for help?

A: ​Please go to the Lorenzo A. Ramirez Library homepage and select the Ask A Librarian chat service on the right hand side. The Ask a Librarian chat service is open Monday through Thursday, 7:30am to 7:30pm. We are closed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
