Welcome to the STAR Center

Location: D-206

The Science Teaching and Resource (STAR) Center is SCC’s hub for academic support in science courses. Whether you’re working through a tough concept, preparing for an exam, or looking to strengthen your study skills, the STAR Center is here to help you succeed.

What we offer:

Q & A Session Times

  • Drop in anytime to ask quick questions or get help on homework and class concepts in biology, chemistry, and physics.
  • Check out the semester schedule below for the STAR Center hours and when our tutors are available.

 Directed Learning Activities (DLAs)
DLAs are short, faculty-designed learning modules that walk you through essential skills and content in biology, chemistry, and physics. Here’s how they work:

  1. Visit the STAR Center and request the DLA by name.  Don’t know which one you want?  Check out the list of available options.
  2. Complete the activity in the center with an IA available to assist you. You can check your answers to see if you are on the right track.
  3. When finished, the IA will review your work and provide a completion stamp for the activity.

Most DLAs take about 60–90 minutes and are a great way to reinforce what you’re learning in class.

Student-Led Study Groups

Looking for collaborative learning?

  • Study groups provide a collaborative, encouraging space to learn course material with your peers. The STAR Center is the perfect place to find classmates studying the same content and build your own study group.
  • Connect with peers that will enhance your learning experience and support your STEM journey at SCC. During your study sessions, you’re welcome to ask a STAR Center tutor for help if you run into questions or need clarification.
