What is Caring Campus?
An intentional college-wide commitment to make students feel welcomed with a sense of connectedness and belonging
Why Caring Campus?
Research has shown that today’s students have far more challenges than previous generations. Family trauma, unemployment and lack of resources make it difficult for students to stay in college. Studies have also shown students who feel connected to their college are more likely to be retained, persist from semester to semester and complete their academic goals. Caring Campus helps us to focus on building relationships with our students to nurture the human connection which will foster student success.
SCC Cares... about you!
In 2022, Santiago Canyon College was selected to participate in Caring Campus, an initiative of the Institute for Evidence-Based Change. This participation allowed us to enhance our campus-wide student caring attitude, which provides you a positive student experience and success. We are committed to providing you a home away from home, a place where you are more than a student. You are part of our SCC Hawk family. What happens here matters and we care about you!
To help us maintain a welcoming environment, we promise to keep these commitments:
- Ten-Foot Rule
- Nametags
- Cross Department Awareness
- Warm Referrals
- First Week Greetings (Welcome Week)
