February 2024 Update
The Comprehensive Educational Planning Project for Santiago Canyon College (SCC) continues along its established schedule. The team of CBT professionals has completed work in Phase I – the Discovery Phase and Phase II – Portfolio Development and Planning Assumptions and began Phase III of the project this month. All three phases of the project, with respective timelines, are shown below. The project continues over the next two months and will conclude in March 2024.

Project Phases and Timeline

  • Phase I – Discovery Phase: Data Collection, Analysis, Synthesis (Oct-Dec 2023)
  • Phase II – Portfolio Development & Planning Assumptions (Jan-Feb 2024)
  • Phase III – Goal Setting & Recommendations (Feb–Mar 2024)

During the month of February:

  • The CBT team provided a summary of Trends and Planning Assumptions as well as Challenges and Opportunities to EMP Task Force members.
  • On February 21st and 22nd, the Task Force met for its CEP goal-setting sessions. Following a review of the RSCCD-approved Strategic Directions, Vision 2030 goals, and the comprehensive data portfolio with qualitative and quantitative information, the Task Force drafted SCC’s 2024-2032 Goals and Objectives. These included:
    • Goal 1: Strengthen student support services and program offerings to increase educational excellence, transfer, and economic and career advancement.
    • Goal 2: Build academic and workforce partnerships to provide premium educational and training opportunities for the community.
    • Goal 3: Partner with the community to guide the promotion of campus and educational
    • opportunities and services.
    • Goal 4: Evaluate and implement processes in support of employee experience and optimize student access and success.
    • Goal 5: Maximize funding streams to develop accessible and adaptable facilities and support the continuous improvement of all programs and services to elevate Santiago Canyon College as the premier community college.
  • On February 23rd, a Joint Session of the Colleges and District (Santiago Canyon College, Santa Ana College, District Services and Operations) was held to gain insight into each other’s plans and explore areas for support and collaboration across the district.

During the month of March, CBT will return an initial CEP draft to the Task Force for review before its next meeting on March 8th. Task Force members will return initial edits to Dr. Parks by March 7th for inclusion in the draft. Following the meeting, the Task Force will submit final edits to Dr. Parks for compilation and submission to CBT no later than March 15th, 2024. After all final edits have been incorporated into the document, CBT will return the CEP draft document to SCC by March 31st, 2024. Following SCC's receipt of the CEP draft document, the CEP will proceed through the collegial governance review process. Once finalized, SCC’s CEP will be forwarded to the RSCCD Board of Trustees for consideration of approval. The next and final Monthly Update will be published in late March.
