Smarthinking online tutoring provides students on-demand, individual instruction and support from expert tutors. The service connects students with a diverse group of educators and professionals as the tutors. Each on-call tutor goes through an intensive training and certification program that is specific to working in the virtual classroom to insure that students get the most help they can out of the online tutoring.
This online tutoring option was created with the online student in mind. SCC's Distance Education Coordinator, Scott James, said, "It is important that our online students have access to all of the high quality student services that we provide to our on-campus students. Since we offer tutoring on-campus, we are also committed to extending this service to our online students."
Students can access this online tutoring program any time of the day and week through Blackboard. Once students log on to Blackboard, they just need to click on the online tutoring link within the “my courses” section and follow the instructions to begin being tutored. Once the students get to Smarthinking they are handed to a tutor based on the subject they have selected. Subjects available for students to have help with are writing, researching, reading, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology, Spanish, accounting, economics and any other subject already offered by the tutoring center.
