Types of Scholarships

Scholarships are awards that have been set up for students to further their education. Scholarships are awarded on various criteria, usually reflecting the values and purposes of the donor or founder of the award. Scholarship criteria can include, but is not limited to:
  • Academic Performance
  • Career Aspirations
  • Artistic Ability; and
  • Athletic Excellence
There are several types of scholarships available at SCC. Depending on your situation, you may qualify for one or more of the types below:
Annual Scholarships – Applications are available annually from January to March. Recipients of the Annual Scholarships are recognized during a Scholarship ceremony at the end of the spring semester. Funds are disbursed the following fall semester.
Art Scholarships – Candidates for the Art Scholarships are nominated by the Art Department. Recipients are recognized during the department's annual Art Show. Funds are disbursed the following fall semester.
College Athletic Scholarships – Candidates are nominated by the SCC Athletic Department. Scholarship recipients are announced during the Golf Tournament in April. Funds are disbursed in August.
Continuing Education Scholarships - Candidates are nominated by the Scholarship Committee at Orange Education Center.
Freshman Scholarships – These scholarships are for incoming freshmen students who are enrolled in at least 12 units. Applications are available in the fall semester. Funds are disbursed at the end of the fall semester.
National Science Foundation Scholarships (NSF) – Scholarships are funded by the National Science Foundation.  Applications are submitted to the SCC STEM Academy. These scholarships are awarded to full-time STEM majors who have a 3.0 GPA or higher at SCC.

One time scholarships (OTS) – These are scholarships that students apply for independently and receive from outside donors (not through the SCC Scholarship office). The SCC Scholarship office does not provide scholarship information of outside agencies, although students are encouraged to research all leads they can find on their own. If you have been awarded a scholarship from an outside organization or agency, please visit the Scholarship Program Office for processing information.
Veteran Scholarships – Scholarship applications are available to veteran students who attend the Veterans Service Office (VSO) orientations in fall and spring.
