New / Returning Student

Application Process

A new SCC student is someone who has never attended either Santiago Canyon College (SCC) or Santa Ana College (SAC).  A returning student is a student who attended SCC or SAC, did not enroll for two (2) primary semesters (Fall and Spring), and now wishes to return. Both new and returning students must fill out an online application to the college to be eligible to register in classes.  After applying to the college, you will receive an email confirmation.  Another email with the Subject Title "Your Application Has Been Processed" will be sent from SCC within 3-5 business days with important registration information and your SCC Student ID Number.  After you receive this email, you will be able to log onto Self-Service to view your registration date.

Student Success Requirements

After applying to SCC...

STEP 1: Assessment and Course Placement Recommendations

Course Placement Recommendations for English and Math Courses:

Placement testing is not required if you are planning to enroll in English, math and/or reading courses.  High school performance and/or guided self-placement will be used to provide you with course recommendations.  Visit the Assessment and Course Placement Recommendations site for additional information on how you can obtain your English and math course recommendations.

If you would like to enroll in the American College English/English as a Second Language (ACE/ESL) program or take Chemistry 200A (General Chemistry I), please schedule a placement test by calling the Counseling Center at (714)628-4800. You will need your SCC Student ID Number to schedule an appointment.

Disability-Related Accommodations:

Students who require disability-related accommodations for American College English (ACE) or Chemistry 200A placement tests must request them at least two weeks prior to testing and provide disability verification from a qualified professional.  To arrange for testing accommodations, contact Disabled Students Program and Services (DSPS) at (714) 628-4860 to schedule an evaluation of needs.

STEP 2:  Orientation, Academic Planning, and Registration Workshop (Mandatory – Prior to Registration)

A new student Academic Planning Workshop is required of all incoming students. A schedule of available workshops is located in the Counseling Center, Room D-106.  You may schedule your appointment in person, by calling the Counseling Center at (714)628-4800.  If you cannot attend the workshop, complete the Online Orientation located in Self-Service under the Academics menu.  Once you complete the Online Orientation, we encourage you to visit the Counseling Center to develop a first-semester education plan.

STEP 3: If You Attended Another College

If you would like to enroll in a course that has a prerequisite and have completed coursework at a regionally accredited college that meets the requirement, you can bring unofficial college transcripts to the Counseling Center, Room D-106.  Call Counseling at (714) 628-4800 and ask for “First Come, First Serve" counselor availability.  Or, you may complete an online prerequisite clearance request by downloading the Course Prerequisite Clearance Online Form and attach the form as well as supporting documentation for your request to an e-mail addressed to prereq@sccollege.edu.

STEP 4: Registration and Fees

Registration is completed online at your assigned registration appointment.  You will receive your Single Sign-On Login (student email) and Password to Self-Service via email.  You can view your registration appointment and register online anytime on or after your appointment until the Sunday before classes begin.  Additional registration instructions are available at the Admissions and Records Office.
