Message from the President regarding 2020 Commencement
Dear Graduating Student,
We are living through extraordinary times and few would have predicted a national pandemic of this magnitude. Given current directives and executive orders from state and local public health officials, the in-person commencement ceremony scheduled for June 5, 2020 has been postponed. This decision was not taken lightly and we understand that you have been asked to sacrifice a tremendous amount this year.
After surveying all students eligible to graduate, we learned that the majority of respondents indicated a preference for a rescheduled, in-person ceremony when it is once again safe to resume large gatherings. Furthermore, the majority of respondents indicated a willingness to participate at any future date with no timing restrictions. Based on your input, all students eligible to graduate this year will be invited to participate in the 2021 SCC commencement ceremony.
Though this year's ceremony is being postponed, we want to recognize your accomplishments and will create a Congratulatory Video to be released the week of June 8, 2020 and emailed to all graduates. Additionally, we will produce and print a Commemorative Graduation Booklet and mail no later than June 26, 2020.
I extend best wishes as you transition to the next chapter in your life. I wish you all the best for the future that lies ahead and extend my heartfelt congratulations.
John C. Hernandez, Ph.D.
