Santiago Canyon College to hold annual charity golf tournament on March 18

2/4/2022

(Orange, CA) – Santiago Canyon College (SCC) is teeing up for its annual charity golf tournament and welcoming donations, competitors, spectators and sponsors for the event.

On March 18, 2022, SCC will host the 21st Annual “Changing Students' Lives" Golf Tournament at Strawberry Farms Golf Club in Irvine, Calif. A portion of the proceeds from this year's event will benefit Project RISE, a college initiative to support formerly incarcerated and justice-impacted students to reach their academic and career goals. Students participating in Project RISE also receive resources to alleviate food and housing insecurities and counseling for social and educational services.

Sponsors for the event include Facilities Planning and Program Services, Inc. (FPPS), a Yorba Linda-based consultancy, Farmers & Merchants Bank, SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union, and Integra Golf, the world's largest manufacturer of golf components and graphite golf shafts. FPPS President Ron Beeler said the company was proud to support the golf tournament again, as it has in previous years.

A highlight at the event this year is former lineman for the Seattle Seahawks Dave DesRochers who will serve as the master of ceremonies.

"When I was offered the opportunity to emcee the Golf Tournament for Santiago Canyon College, I jumped at the chance," DesRochers said. "Community college foundations help to support education for all kinds of students, especially underserved populations, and I am honored to support this important work."

“We are so pleased to be able to hold our annual golf tournament in person again and we are grateful for generous sponsors and donors of their support to our college and students," said Executive Director of College Advancement Ruth Cossio-Muniz. “Their generosity truly does change the lives of Santiago Canyon College students, especially those who are turning their lives around through Project RISE."

Registration for the event will kick off at 10:30 a.m. with food and cocktails. Individual players can register for $250, foursomes are $1,000, and tickets to attend the awards reception only are $50. Beginning at 12:15 p.m., participants can take their shot at a putting contest and the $5,000 Mega Putt challenge. A shotgun start will trigger the full tournament at 12:30 p.m. and conclude with the $100,000 shootout and cocktails at 5:45 p.m. An awards ceremony and reception will be held following the event at 6 p.m.
