This event is free of charge and the first 200 guests who arrive and register will be treated to a complimentary meal!
October 3, 2022) - - Orange, CA – As an expression of profound gratitude for all active and retired United States veterans and their families, Santiago Canyon College's Veterans Resource Center will be hosting its first-ever “We Got Your Six" Veterans & Family Fun Fest on Saturday, October 8, from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the college's Strenger Plaza at 8045 East Chapman Ave. in Orange, CA 92869.
Jointly sponsored with the Community Foundation of Orange, the first 200 guests who arrive and register will be treated to a complimentary meal.
When contemplating the ideal name for their event, organizers recalled what World War I fighter pilots would say to each other while flying. The rear of a pilot's plane was known as the six o'clock position. We Got Your Six meant “I've got your back" and signifies the loyalty and cooperation that's present in military culture. This fun fair is no exception!
Festival-goers and their families will have access to a half-day of important onsite resources relating to health and wellness, government and housing assistance, career development, community college and university opportunities and peer navigation. Already scheduled to attend are representatives from: The Salvation Army Veteran Career Services, Hire Heroes USA, VA-Long Beach, Cal Vet, Patriots & Paws, North and South County Vet Centers, Assistance League of Orange (ALO) – Soaring with Valor; Vet Success on Campus Counselor (VSOC), Tierney Center for Veteran Services, U.S. Department of Labor – Veterans Employment & Training Service (VETS), Volunteers of America – Support Services for Veteran Families (SSVF-OC), and Whittier College.
“This fun fest is an essential activity because it gives our veterans and their families a chance to learn more about the resources that are available to them all in one convenient location," emphasized Santiago Canyon College Interim President, Enrique Perez. “But most importantly, it demonstrates our gratitude to all who have served our country courageously. As civilians, we now have their backs and are prepared to help them move on to the next stage of their careers."
While parents are meeting with resource representatives, children will be treated to lawn games and craft making with the local Home Depot team. Plus, art and photography buffs will enjoy checking out a special exhibit spotlighting the work of student veterans. There'll be food, entertainment and something of interest for all.
