(Orange, CA) - Santiago Canyon College (SCC) will hold its first student-run Research Symposium, Friday, April 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in room H-106.
Tiffany Gause, SCC assistant professor of sociology, and Lacy Hedenberg, SCC honors counselor, are symposium co-facilitators. Each year, SCC honors students attend the Honors Transfer Council of California conference where honors students present their research. At SCC’s Research Symposium, all SCC students will be able to participate and present their research in a conference setting.
Participating students can qualify for research awards, build their transfer resume, meet with faculty mentors, and gain research experience that will assist them as they move on in their higher education. Students will explore original research ideas and topics. They will also develop deeper relationships with professors in an environment where they can ask questions, explore new topics, and gain more knowledge. Presenting research will help students hone their professional and academic skills. Hedenberg said, "Students will see what doors will open from presenting their research."
Students have the choice to do an individual, small group (two students), large group (three to five students), or performance presentation with their research poster. Presentations range from 12 minutes to 20 minutes. Students will also moderate the presentations throughout the day and help with running the symposium.
