FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Orange, CA - - (June 1, 2022) – There's a definite sense of exhilaration in the air on the campus of Santiago Canyon College (SCC) as faculty, staff and especially graduating students and their families prepare for the institution's 22nd annual commencement ceremony set for Friday, June 3, 2022, 6 p.m., at the college's Vásquez Promenade, 8045 E. Chapman Ave, Orange, CA.

For SCC, this year's commencement will be a celebration of “firsts." The 2022 graduates will be the first class to receive their diplomas at a ceremony back on campus grounds following the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the ceremony will be the first for Dr. Pamela Ralston since taking leadership as the college's first female president. SCC will present over 1,100 associate degrees and skilled certificates to students who completed their course of study during the 2021-2022 academic year. As part of the graduating class, 35 students will be honored for successfully earning their high school diplomas and completing General Educational Development (GED) certification to further their academic pursuits.

“No doubt, we have reason to laud our 2022 graduates," commented Dr. Ralston. “Pursuing one's academic dreams has never been more challenging than in the last two years. “Our students have learned to remain focused on their academic growth and well-being while

working, and for some, also supporting their families during an unpredictable pandemic and economy. They've developed resiliency and self-efficacy, recognizing that if their desire to succeed was strong enough, nothing could deter them. We applaud their determination," she added.

This year's graduates have been accepted to some of the nation's top colleges and universities including UC Berkeley, UC Davis, Loyola Marymount University, Chapman University, Cal Poly Humboldt, CSU Fullerton, San Francisco Sate University, University of Southern California and Arizona State University, among other schools.
