Santiago Canyon College Performing Arts Department Presents Heroes - A Musical Concert Nov 12, 2022

10/31/2022

(October 26, 2022) – Orange, CA - - Heroes, a vibrant celebration of music, dance, and song will unfold in a special evening performance honoring those who have served in the United States armed forces or as civil servants, especially during crises - like the 2020 pandemic.

Sponsored by the Santiago Canyon College (SCC) Foundation and the Performing Arts Department, the concert is set for Saturday, November 12, 7 p.m. at the SCC Gymnasium, 8045 E. Chapman Ave., Orange, CA.

This joyful celebration will feature SCC students, faculty, staff, management, alumni and even community supporters. Already scheduled to perform are: SCC's Collegiate and Chamber Choirs, the Swingin' Hawks Jazz Band, the Song Xanh Vocal Ensemble, the Wimberley Bluegrass Band as well as the Orange County Four Seasons Orchestra, a 35-member ensemble. Concert-goers will hear music from 19th-century opera composer Puccini and compositions such as “Heroes & Dreamers" from Pinkzebra.

“The pandemic of 2020 deeply affected our communities in ways that were visible as well as invisible," commented Dr. Binh Vu, SCC's chairperson for the performing arts department. “Music allows us the ability to collectively express what we were feeling during these dark days - - feelings of despair, hope and a will to survive and strive. This concert's purpose is two-fold: to give voice to our thoughts through words and notes and to personally thank those individuals who helped us through these difficult moments in our lives."

“I know Heroes is going to be a captivating celebration for everyone," emphasized SCC Interim President, Enrique Perez. “All will be mesmerized by some of the finest musicians and vocalists who have performed at SCC. We are excited that our surrounding communities will join us and treat themselves, their families and friends to this noteworthy concert."

For those who can't attend the concert in person, the performance will be live-streamed by Garden Grove, California based Vietnam America Television (VNA-TV) Channel 57.3.
