(Orange, CA) – The Santiago Canyon College (SCC) Foundation is teeing up for its annual charity golf tournament on Friday, March 18, and proud to announce Medica Talent Group as the title sponsor. The 21st Annual “Changing Students' Lives" Golf Tournament, which raises funds for student scholarships, programs and services, will take place at Strawberry Farms Golf Club in Irvine and welcomes players, donations, spectators and sponsors.
Medica Talent Group is an award-winning network of human resource, talent acquisition, and healthcare professionals dedicated to improving patient care. Their highly strategic and experienced team delivers on innovative recruitment techniques and networking programs to accommodate supplemental staffing requirements for the healthcare industry.
“As a company that believes in partnering for success, Medica Talent Group is pleased to support Santiago Canyon College in its mission to raise funds for student scholarships," said Fred Flores, President and Chief Executive Officer of Medica Talent Group, Inc. “We value the fundamental concept of giving back to the community and are excited to partner with SCC on this fundraiser to promote higher education."
The SCC Foundation will host the event with a kick-off at 10:30 a.m. that includes food and games. At 12:15 p.m., participants can take their shot at a putting contest and the $5,000 Mega Putt challenge. A shotgun start will trigger the full tournament at 12:30 p.m. and conclude with the $100,000 shootout and cocktails at 5:45 p.m. An awards reception will be held following the event featuring SCC's Jazz Band and emcee Dave DesRochers, a former NFL defensive lineman for the Seattle Seahawks, currently the founder and CEO of the 1st and Goal Project.
A portion of the proceeds from this year's event will benefit the college's Project RISE program, an initiative that supports formerly incarcerated and justice-impacted students with counseling for rehabilitation, and resources to alleviate food and housing insecurity.
“I am incredibly grateful to Santiago Canyon College for helping individuals like myself find our corrective path to reach our academic and career goals," said Raymond Sanchez, an alumnus of SCC's Project RISE who is now pursuing a master's degree in Social Services at California State University, Fullerton. “Having mentors who believed in me allowed me to see the world as a possibility to do good in this life and help lift others up when they are down."
According to a report by the Campaign for College Opportunity, a study showed that state-funded programs serving formerly incarcerated students at Cal State, earned an average GPA of 3.0 between 2016 and 2020. None of the students returned to prison, and 87% secured full-time jobs after graduation.
SCC Foundation Executive Director Ruth Cossio-Muniz said the golf tournament is not only a way to raise funds for students, but also for the college to show its appreciation to community and business partners. “We are pleased to be able to hold our annual golf tournament in person this year and thank our generous donors like Medica Talent Group for their sponsorships," Cossio-Muniz said. “Their willingness to support community college truly does change the lives of Santiago Canyon College students."
The golf tournament is open to the public and anyone can participate. More details are available at https://sccollegefoundation.org/golftournament. For additional inquiries, contact the Santiago Canyon College Foundation at foundation@sccollege.edu or call (714) 628-4790.
