Is the library building open during Fall 2021?
The first floor of the library building is open to current Santiago Canyon College credit and non-credit students for:
- Computer use, including printing services
- Use of study tables
- Book check-out, including course reserve materials and books from the circulating collection on the second story. The second story is temporarily closed. Please go to the Reference Desk where a librarian can assist you.
The operating hours are Monday - Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Ask A Librarian Reference Chat service is open remotely from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday - Thursday.
What policies are in place for access to the library building?
Students must wear a mask or face-covering that covers both their nose and mouth the entire time they are in the building.
Students may not come to the library building if they are experiencing any of the following symptoms: cough; shortness of breath or difficulty breathing; fever greater than 100 degrees; chills; muscle pain; sore throat; loss of taste or smell. If students have any of these symptoms, they should contact their primary care provider for assessment of symptoms and/or COVID-19 testing. They should also self-isolate until cleared by their doctor.
What policies are in place for use of library computers?
Computers are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. There is no time limit on computer use.
What policies are in place regarding the check-out of course reserve materials?
The checkout period of course reserve materials is usually 2 hours with some 48 hour checkouts depending on the material. The late fee for course reserve materials is $5 per day, per item.
How can I search if my textbook is available in course reserves?
Course reserve materials are searchable from the search discovery system on the library homepage. They are searchable by course name (e.g., ENGL 101), title, or author.
Can I place course reserve materials on hold?
Course reserve materials cannot be placed on hold.
What policies are in place regarding the check-out of books from the circulation collection in the second-floor stacks?
To access a book from the circulating collection in the second-floor stacks, students may request a hold on the book (see below), or may come into the library and ask a circulation staff member to retrieve the book. The second story of the library is not accessible for browsing at this time.
How can I request a hold on books from the circulating collection in the second floor stacks?
Books from the circulating collection in the second floor stacks can be located in the search discovery system on the library homepage. Once you have found the book you would like to place on hold, sign in using your Web Advisor credentials.
Once you are signed in and have found the item you want the library to hold, click Request, select Santiago Canyon College Ramirez Library as the pickup location, and the date after which the item is not needed. Then send the request. Books will be set aside for you for one week.
Can I check out a laptop?
Yes: information on the laptop loaner program can be found here. If you need access to a computer/laptop, please email Silvia Lopez at Lopez_Silvia@sccollege.edu to schedule a pick-up appointment.
How do I return my library materials when the library is closed?
Students may place materials in the Book Return Box located on the drive through/drop off lane in front of the E-Building. Please be aware that the Chapman entrance may be cornered off on Fridays and weekends.
How am I able to access Noodle Tools for creating citations for my research paper?
A: You can access NoodleTools here. You will need to create an account in NoodleTools if you do not already have one.
Can I book a study room even though the second story is currently closed?
Until the second story of the library is open, study rooms will remain closed.

How do I ask for research help?
Please go to the Lorenzo A. Ramirez Library homepage and select the Ask A Librarian chat service on the right hand side.
