Online courses are 100% online. You do not need to purchase any textbooks or specific software.
Students will be required to be active three times a week online.
Access to an up-to-date computer with Office Applications (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OR Pages, Keynote, Numbers, OR Open Office equivalents) webcam, speakers and microphone, and reliable high-speed internet connection that is capable of supporting streaming video. Internet speed of 4Mbps download and 512kbps upload or faster is recommended.
Students should have access to at least two Internet browsers (e.g., Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome). Instructors might require the use of a particular browser. Students should have a "back-up" computer/plan in the event that their main computer experiences technological difficulties.
REGISTERING FOR CONTINUING EDUCATION ONLINE CLASSES
Students should complete the following steps to register and participate in SCC - Continuing Education Online classes:
1. Log on to SCC Webadvisor. To create an SCC-Continuing Education Webadvisor account (username and password) or to reactive an existing account (if you are a returning student and have not attended classes since July 1st) go the SCC Webadvisor Guest Menu and complete an application, click Apply to Continuing Education. Please allow 24-48hrs for processing of your application. Upon submitting your application you will receive an email confirming receipt of your application with instructions to complete the registration process. If you have an active SCC Webadvisor account (which means you submitted an online or paper application starting July 1st) just log in to SCC WebAdvisor to register for online classes there is no need to submit an online application.
2. Log on to Canvas for access to online instruction. To access Canvas you will need to have/create an OpenCCC account. You will receive an email with your Open CCC student ID number when your account is created. Once you have an OpenCCC account go to the WebAdvisor or SCC Canvas link to log in to Canvas using your WebAdvisor username and password. Please note that you must complete the WebAdvisor class registration process described in Step 1 to see your online class in Canvas.
Completing the above steps will ensure students are registered in the appropriate online class and are able to access Canvas to participate in online instruction and class activities
