SCC Golfers finish fourth in state

Orange—The Santiago Canyon College men’s golf team capped the season with a fourth place finish in the state championship, played in Hanford, May 16.

After a slow start that left the Hawks in last place at the end of the first round, SCC’s shot 370, the best team score of the second round, leaving SCC only 4 strokes behind tournament winner Chabot.  SCC’s Steven Gouirand’s 68 was the best of the second round.

“The Hawks made a great comeback in the second round,” said SCC head coach Tom Shine.

Overall, the Hawks shot 388-370-758,  based on the contributions of these athletes:

  • Jordan Guillen 74-75-149
  • Steven Gouirand 83-68-151
  • Justin Wilcock 74-79-153
  • Matt Coulter 83-75-158
  • Max Letarte 84-83-167

Team scores had Chabot 754, College of the Desert 756, Reedley 757, SCC 758, Santa Rosa 759, Long Beach 765, Glendale 770, and Folsom Lake 780.

SCC advanced to their first team appearance in the state championship after placing fourth in the Southern Regional Championship. 

Santiago Canyon College is a public community college of Rancho Santiago Community College District, serving the residents of Anaheim Hills, Orange, Tustin and Villa Park.  The college provides education for academic transfer and careers, courses for personal and professional development, and customized training for business and industry.
