SCC Honors Students Excel in UCI Admissions
Orange—In the first year of Santiago Canyon College’s participation in the University of California Irvine’s Transfer Honors Enrollment (THE) Guarantee program, all 13 SCC students who applied and were eligible to the program were offered admission.
UCI’s THE Guarantee program is open only to students at select partner colleges. More than 145 Santiago Canyon students applied for admission to UCI, but only those who completed the SCC Honors Program with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 or higher were considered for THE. The average GPA for SCC students admitted to the program was 3.82.
“Our honors students have always had an extremely high success rate at transferring to even the most competitive schools,” said Robert Waldren, Santiago Canyon College Transfer Center coordinator. “Now, because of the relationships we’ve developed with UCI, we are one of a small handful of partner colleges whose students are eligible for THE.”
In addition to being offered admission, all 13 SCC students were offered Regents scholarships by UCI.
Santiago Canyon College is a public community college of Rancho Santiago Community College District, serving the residents of Anaheim Hills, Orange, Tustin and Villa Park.
