Santiago Canyon College Hosts First Student Art Show

May 5, 2009

Orange — Santiago Canyon College’s first annual juried Student Art Show opens on Friday, May 8, from 6-8 pm in the college library. Enjoy live music and refreshments followed by a brief award and scholarship ceremony. Students will receive awards for the best work in the following media: drawing, life drawing, 2- and 3-dimensional design, glass exploration, stained glass, painting and experimental mixed media painting.

“This is a wonderful opportunity for our talented students to display their creativity to the campus and community. We’re very pleased to showcase the art in our beautiful college library,” said Dr. John Weispfenning, dean of the library, fine and performing arts, and communication.

Five student artists will be awarded a total of nearly $3,000 in scholarships for demonstrating artistic excellence. In addition, art and glass work will be available for purchase at reasonable prices.

“Where else can you find cutting-edge art and crafts from local artists without the hassle of trying to park in Laguna Beach, or the expense of museum entrance fees?” added Moira Hahn, art department chair and faculty member.

The college is located at 8045 E. Chapman Avenue in Orange, at the intersection of Chapman and Newport. Free event parking is available. For information, please call 714-628-5031.
