The great news is that cosmetology career prospects are almost unlimited – and demand is only growing. In Orange County, job opportunities are expected to grow by 14.2% by 2020, according to the California Employment Development Department.

SCC's Cosmetology program not only offers two certifications in high-demand specialties but prepares students with the knowledge they need to pass the required California State Board of Barbering and Cosmetology licensure exams.

The Certificate of Achievement in Cosmetology includes 1,600 board-required hours of career-focused lecture and laboratory instruction on such topics as haircutting, coloring, chemical waving, straightening, facials, manicures, principles of sanitation, industry regulations, and the business of managing a beauty salon.

As an added bonus, because COAs include all of the major courses required for an Associate degree, students only need to finish their general education requirements to complete their Associate in Science in Cosmetology!

For individuals looking for faster entry into the field or who wish to become estheticians, the 600-hour Esthetician Certificate of Proficiency provides the practical knowledge necessary to pass the state board exam, so you can start working as soon as possible.
