Scholarships are financial aid gift awards that have been set up for students to further their education. Scholarships are awarded on various criteria usually reflecting the values and purposes of the donor or founder of the award. Merit scholarships are often related to academic performance, but can also be given to a candidate displaying artistic or athletic excellence or sometimes a combination there of.
There are several types of scholarships available at SCC. Depending on your situation, you may qualify for one or more of the types below:
Annual Scholarships – Scholarship are awarded during the Scholarship Ceremony in May. Applications are available from January to March every year. Funds are disbursed the following August.
Art Scholarships – Scholarships are awarded during the Art Show in May. Recipients are nominated by the Art Department. Funds are disbursed at the Art Show.
Buy-the-Book Scholarships – The book scholarships are awarded the first two days of class during the fall and spring semesters. Awards are on a first come first serve basis. Students must have a 2.0 GPA and not receiving any other grants or scholarships. The scholarship is only for books at the SCC Hawk Bookstore.
College Athletic Scholarships – Scholarship are awarding during the Golf Tournament in April. Recipients are nominated by the SCC Athletic Department. Funds are disbursed in August.
Continuing Education Scholarships - Scholarship are awarded during the Scholarship Ceremony in May. Recipients are nominated by the Scholarship Committee at the Orange Education Center. Funds are disbursed at the Scholarship Ceremony.
High School Scholarships – Scholarships are for incoming freshman students who are enrolled in at least 12 units. Applications are available from September to the end of October each year. Funds are disbursed in December.
National Science Foundation Scholarships (NSF) – Scholarships are funded by the NSF. They are awarded to full-time STEM major who have a 3.0 GPA or higher at SCC.
One time scholarships (OTS) – Scholarships that student’s apply for and receive from outside donors. Please visit the Scholarship Program’s website for online scholarship sources.
Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) Scholarships – Scholarships are for students with a STEM major. Students must be enrolled in at least 9 units and be part of the STEM Academy and/or (STEM) 2 Program.
Veteran Scholarships – Scholarships are awarded to veteran students who attend the VSO Orientations in fall and spring.
