Santiago Canyon College Hosts Free International Film Festival

WHAT:
In celebration of Diversity Month, the community is invited to attend the free International Film Festival hosted by Santiago Canyon College’s Languages Department during the months of April and May. Admission, parking and refreshments are free. Faculty members from the languages department will introduce the following films and lead discussion afterward:

  • Friday, April 17: LES VISITEURS / THE VISITORS (French, 1993. In French with English subtitles. Color. Rated R.) – Comedy starring Jean Reno. After medieval knights are transported to present-day France by a senile sorcerer, they must enlist the aid of their descendants to return home. Winner of a CÚsar Award.
  • Friday, April 24: PANE E TULIPANI / BREAD AND TULIPS (Italian, 2000. In Italian with English subtitles. Color. PG-13.) – In this romantic comedy by Director Silvio Soldini, the life of a housewife changes when she is accidentally left behind while on vacation with her family. Instead of waiting for them to return for her, she travels to Venice on her own and begins a new life. Winner of six European film awards.
  • Friday, May 1: EL ORFANATO / THE ORPHANAGE (Mexico-Spain, 2007. In Spanish with English subtitles. Color. Rated R.) – Supernatural thriller by award-winning director Juan Antonio Bayona. A woman returns to her hometown and reopens the orphanage where she grew up. Soon her son begins talking to an imaginary friend before he suddenly disappears, leaving his distraught mother to search for him. Winner of over a dozen international film awards.

WHEN: Friday evenings in April and May (April 17, 24 and May 1), 6:00 p.m.
