PBLC 076 Building Code Fundamentals—Non-Structural 2 units
This course develops an indepth understanding of non-structural provisions of California Building Code (CBC), such as building fire life safety and access compliance. This hand-on training will be base on the 2007 CBC (volume I). This course prepares individuals who work, or seek work in building industry, such as building department staff, inspection and code enforcement, contractors, architects, building designers, project managers and civil engineers.
PBLC 077 Energy Code and Green Building 1 unit
This course covers the 2008 California Energy Code and Green Building standards Code for residential and non-residential projects. Fundamentals of mandatory, prescriptive and performance level requirements of the two codess will be discussed and compared to develop an indepth understanding of the codes. The most current regulations in energy efficient building design will be identified and provides a good base for individuals who are interested in pursuing career in building industry such as designers, architects, city and county building inspectors, project managers, contractors, energy consultants and contractors.
PLBC 078 Building Code Administration and Code Enforcement Process 2 units
An overview of city government operations, development review process, building department operations, building and housing codes and municipal ordinance enforcement. Applicable sections of codes and ordinances will be discussed and responsibilities of the Community Development staff are explored. Focuses on the day-to-day operations of the Community Development and building department staff including Planners, the Building Official, Building Inspectors, Permit technicians and Code Enforcement staff. This course is recommended for those interested in pursuing a career in Community Development or Building Department as a Planner, Permit Technician, Building Inspector, Code Compliance Officer or Code Enforcement Personnel.
PBLC 079 Sustainable Living and Green Building Concepts 1 unit
Covers the 2008 California Energy Code and 2007 Green Building Standards Code for residential/non-residential projects. Provides background on several different energy-efficient programs such as “LEED”, “Build it Green” and “California Green Builder”. This crash-course will highlight the difference between these programs and identifies the pros and cons of each in the context of several projects. Current knowledge in energy-efficient building design provides a solid base for careers in building, construction and utilities (SCE, SCG) such as designers, architects, building inspectors, project managers, building energy modelers/consultants and contractors. This program is recommended for the general public as well as students and professionals interested in Sustainable/Green building design. This class will focus on the future Green economy.
